This is a collection of postcards to one individual over a four year period. It is unusual to find a collection like this kept together for so long. I bought them from a women whose Grandma was the recipient. From reading the cards we can piece together a small part of this woman's life. The addresses alone reveal something about her health as she moves towns and enters different hospitals. The postage marks tell us that she was in and out of these institutions and often stayed there for months at a time. Infectious diseases were prevelent before the advent of antibiotics. Isolation hospitals and Sanitoriums were facilities away from other hospitals or buildings for the isolation and treatment of diseases such as Diptheria, Polio, Cholera, Typhoid, Smallpox and Tuberculosis. These facilities were home to many long term sufferers such as Miss Williams. In these postcards there are also mysterious clues to the friends and acquaintences in her life.
